Radom Academy of Economics and the District Police Headquarters in Radom organized a public debate entitled “Protest, manifest, disagree, how?.”
The main aims of the debate were:
-social consultation embracing security;
-engaging undergraduates and postgraduates as well other students’ organizations into developing some ways of increasing personal safety among the Radom community;
-improving the quality of a public debate.
Our Academy has been avoiding attachment to any of the political parties. In the last 15 years we have been organizing many debates, events, lectures with the heads of different movements. We have been inviting the representatives of the political, economic, social, and cultural sector that presented different points of views. Our guests were, for instance, the presidents of Poland, the prime ministers of Poland, or other members of the Parliament. All of these people acquainted us with the precious knowledge on different topics. I hope that this meeting will also be a chance to express our opinions and views- said the Rector of Radom Academy of Economics, Mrs Elżbieta Kielska.
The introductory lecture was conducted by Mr Rafał Batkowski, the regional police officer. He particularly drew attention to mass events and the problems that arise while preparing them. The problem was also drew to the consequences that such events have and risks involved.
The meeting was also attended by the young representatives of main political parties in Poland such as Law and Justice, the People’s Party, and Social Democrat Movement. The main topic of their discussion was connected with conducting demonstrations. All of them agreed on the fact that the way street protests are organized has to be changed. What is missing in today’s’ demonstrations is freedom and safety. Unfortunately, most of the protesters fear their life while participating in such events and are unable to express their views freely. According to them, most of the fights between the protesters are provoked by the police in fact. The regional police officer reacted in a very calm way to these unfair blames and pointed out that only thanks to the cooperation and through dialogue they can change the present situation of this dilemma.
The meeting ended up with all participants’ enthusiasm. The organizer of the event, PH. D. Michał Domagała was supervising the whole debate and made sure that everything was going smoothly. He was impressed with the opinions expressed by the young representatives of different political movements that were so mature despite their age. The public took an active part in the final discussion part and this was a perfect occasion to exchange and share our views as well as suggest some ways of improvements to the problems connected with safety, organizing demonstrations or mass events.
The debate took place on 27th of April, 2013 and the meeting was held at Radom Academy of Economics at Traugutta street 61a.
