The students of Radom Academy of Economics that came as part of the Erasmus Programme took part in the Tolerance Day organized by Secondary School in Jedlnia Letnisko.
The International Day for Tolerance held annually on 16th of November became also a tradition of Secondary School in Jedlnia Letnisko that organizes an event each year attracting foreign students from the Radom region. In accordance with the ideas of the founders that started this idea, the teachers endeavour to instill universal vales into students such as respect for other nationalities, its identity, traditions, rituals or religion.
As one of the teachers admitted “ We are trying to break the barriers that divide the society, we are constantly building a bridge of dialogues and mutual understanding. We are pretty sure that instilled values will let young people be more tolerant and live us in peace”.
One of the elements of the event is inviting foreigners that take part in this undertaking: “ The school has had a pleasure to host many foreigners, for example, Mr. Richard Mbewe – an economist coming from Zambia that lives and works in Poland. Having a distinct appearance, Mr. Mbewe raised the students’ interest that eagerly asked him about his life inn Poland”.
The students from Radom Academy of Economics such as Christina Mutafova from Bulgaria, Andrea Tureac from Romania, Georgő Juhász from Hungary and Serdar Akkuş from Turkey prepared for students some informative presentations about their countries, their traditions, cultural events and other aspects. The highlight of the visit was a debate on tolerance that was held in English. The students were asking about their impressions of living in Radom, the acts of racism or how the Polish people are perceived in their countries.
The Tolerance Day ended up with a repast at a local restaurant where the invited guests could try Polish cuisine. “This was a very interesting day, the students were very friendly, the organizers were very sympathetic and the dumplings filled with mushrooms were so delicious” – said Christina Mutafova, a student from Bulgeria.
The Tolerance Day took part on 20th of November 2013. The organizers of the event were Mrs. Paulina Kwiatkowska and Mr. Jerzy Janiszewski – the teachers of English.
