The organizers of  all-Poland film gatherings “Summer Film Festival” in cooperation with cultural, educational and municipal organizations of Radom had a pleasure to conduct a conference entitled “Social and preventive role of culture” that took place at Radom Academy of Economics on 19^th of June 2013 at Traugutta street 61a.

Can culture change the reality?

Can culture influence the attitude to life and society?

It is commonly said that art creates good examples to follow. But what does it mean?

How to optimally use the cultural heritage?

Do just big cities have a chance to appeal to people as the cultural centers?

To what extent culture may affect the image of the city?

The above aspects were discussed in detail during the conference. “Summer Film Festival” that was a perfect occasion for an open debate concerning the impact of culture on developing social attitudes and shaping the image of the modern city. “Radom has a chance to become a center of research in this field” said one of the speakers during the conference.

A significant role in the event played  the Regional Police Headquarter in Radom that has been using up-to-date approaches in the processes of prevention and education using cultural heritage such as films, theaters etc. The Regional Police Headquarter has been participating in the event of Summer Film Festival since 2013 and contributes to preparation of film workshops that are used to prevent and fight crime.

In the process of Summer Film Festival organization it also had its part Mazovia Social Policy Center that is responsible for identifying the reasons of the presence of social problems and working on the ways of their elimination.

The conference ended up with a Rector’s speech that underlined the fact that the society is not the nation’s tool but forms a commonwealth. This commonwealth is not an easy thing to create, however such events as the Summer Film Festival significantly help in achieving this goal.
