The Republic of Croatia has undertaken a long way to join the European Union, but it was all worth it – said the Ambassador of Croatia His Excellency Ivan del Vechio that visited the students of Radom Academy of Economics and the residents of Radom on 6th June 2013. The main topic of the lecture referred to the planned accession of Croatia to the European Union on the 1st of July 2013.
During the lecture Mr. Ambassador talked about the activities undertaken by Croatia that were needed to be accepted by the European Union as well as the political situation in the 1990’s when Croatia was fighting again for independence. Since Croatia has been an independent nation, it started long-lasting efforts to stabilize all sectors so that it has real chances to apply for the membership in the European Union.
Despite all obstacles, Croatia has been working hard for 13 years in order to stabilize legal, economic, educational or even cultural aspects so that it fits the regulations stipulated by the European Union. Even the European crisis doe not discourage the Croatian community as they enthusiastically crave for the membership in the Union.
The Ambassador also discussed the relation between Poland and Croatia. His Excellency stressed that Poland sets an example for the Croatia when it comes to the realization of goals that were set after Poland became the official member of the Union. The main priorities that Croatia is going to realize are fighting the corruption, the economic growth, an easier flow of funds and services, as well Croatia come back to the Middle Europe.
The meeting ended up with an open debate during which the audience asked questions concerning the expectations and fears concerning Croatia’s membership in the European Union. The Ambassador of Croatia was the 35th Ambassador visiting our Academy.
